Big Boy Day

OK, third time has to be a charm... Thanks to my dear friend Leigh, we have taken the plunge yet a third time and have gotten rid of the pacifier. Landon and I went to Build a Bear today and had a great time making a stuffed puppy that Landon named Pluto. Landon was enthusiastic and handed the man operating the stuffing machine his two pacifiers to put into Pluto's belly.

Landon holding the heart that he and I both kissed and put in the stuffing that now shares a space with two pacifiers in Pluto's belly.

Landon giving Pluto a bath. He really got a kick out of this and made sure he washed his "yucky toes" really well. :)

Serious hug here. After we left Pluto had to share the seat with Landon in the stroller and is now among the many friends in Landon's bed with him.

We declared today, "Big Boy Day". He got dressed in his big boy clothes with big boy underwear and we set out to get stepping stools so he could stand to pee pee in the potty without mommy's help (or additional stress on my back), a build a bear who would be stuffed with the pacifiers (this time all pacifiers went- none left for any of us to fall back on), and cupcakes because one of the "No more Pacifiers" books we read had a little boy eating a cupcake because he did not have a paci in his mouth.

We accomplished all goals and had lunch at Panera's. Landon took the Big Boy theme seriously and did not sit in a booster or highchair, ate all of his meal (bagel with cream cheese, many pieces of my spinach lettuce, apple and water out of a big boy cup) without a struggle at all. I could not believe it.

We finished the day by playing in the play area at the mall. He had a blast chasing all the older kids around and has become quite a climber. I was so proud of him.

We got home for nap and he did cry for paci. He did fall out of his bed for the first time. He did try to rip the build a bear Pluto open to get his pacifier. I did rock him to sleep. But when he got up, he told his Nanny who was here visiting, "Paci went bye bye." He said this very matter of factly and he is soundly sleeping right now without paci. He is very motivated by mommy being happy right now and I really played that up today. He IS a big boy and I am so proud of him.

I do covet your prayers as we go through this transition. We have expected a lot out of him but feel it is better to do these things now when we are able to give him our full attention. He brings us such joy- it is amazing and more so daily.

"Babymoon"

Stan and I got away this weekend for a little "Babymoon". Hard to believe my due date is 2 months away! We went to Fort Lewis Lodge in Virginia, a quiet Bed and Breakfast get away without televisions, telephone service, disctractions from daily life. Plus, the food there was delicious- a southern delicacy. I think my favorite dish was the fresh stewed tomatoes and barbecue ribs...yummy! I know the little fella growing inside me loved it too. He couldn't stop doing summersaults all weekend! :) Don't worry, that didn't prevent me from sleeping in until 8:30 two days in a row and having 2 naps on Saturday!!

We did manage to get some exercise and went on a hike and saw this view of the old farmhouse that has been transformed into this Bed and Breakfast. It was a little slice of heaven for sure.

Mommom kept Landon for us and they had a blast. If I have learned anything, I have learned that keeping your marriage strong, communication open and also allowing extended family the blessing of participating in your children's lives are top priorities. If you haven't gotten away lately with your spouse, I highly recommend it. It is well worth it.

Catching Up and Progress

Landon got to spend some great quality time with my cousins, I guess that makes then his 2nd or 3rd cousins or something...anyway...Colin and Jill came over on Sunday for a Jones family get together and I snagged this picture when I found the three of them in Landon's room with Jill reading a book and Landon snuggled up with Colin. Colin had already come downstairs twice with specific tasks to get Raffie, Bunny and Sting Ray and some Juice for Landon- my little guy knows what he wants and how to get it! It was so sweet how Jill and Colin really loved up on Landon and he ate up every bit of it!

Landon also made the connection that "Uncle Fred" had the same name as his truck "Fred" and proceeded to show my Uncle Fred all of his cars. He had the most adorable look on his face when he held the truck, Fred, in his hand, slyly waltzed over to Uncle Fred and held up the truck to match Fred with Fred. How sweet.

Aunt Vivian made quite and impression when she surprised Landon with "Red", the firetruck from Cars that I had promised to Landon if he pooped in the potty! She also was a great snuggle buddy as evidenced by this picture! (And yes, if you are wondering if that is a pacifier in his mouth, it is. He still has it for naps and bedtime. The last baby thing to go. We have made so many transitions this summer, and he and the rest of us did not sleep for 6 weeks straight when we attempted to get rid of it, that I decided it wasn't worth it at this point. He is almost there and I am working on a good way to do it this time. I am thinking about Build a Bear as my dear friend Leigh suggested where Landon would put his paci in the belly of the bear and keep the bear.) Certainly not something I thought I would still be dealing with.
Last but not least...speaking of big boy things...Landon is definitely Pee-pee potty trained and has started regularly sitting on the potty to try to poop- and is happy about it! I did have to change the reward now that he has "Red", but thankfully my mother in law found two cars he had been wanting at a yard sale for 2.50! Thanks Kay! He sat three times today after he learned of the new incentives!

Landon's Rendition of Jesus Loves Me

So, last weekend Stan had Landon and started singing Jesus Loves Me. Landon started singing along. Stan called his parents and Landon sang for them on the phone. Then mommy came home and Stan said, "Have you been teaching Landon Jesus Loves Me?" to which I replied, not really, I have just been singing it to him since he was born. So...he learned the entire song by repetition after hearing me sing it so many times to him. It just floored me to think that I had taught him this song by singing it over and over as one of his lullabies. How precious this is his second song, only second to "Row Row Row your boat."

It made me sit back and think about all those things we do with our children very early in life that we may not think they are paying attention to...they are. Wow. It is awesome to see how fascinating the young little mind can be.

Isn't it amazing to witness and be a part of shaping a life- even when we are unaware- a little overwhelming too. Well, enjoy the video and night night.

Landon's got a new grin...

Of late, Landon has started to putting on the biggest "CHEESE" when I am snapping a million pictures of him.
He absolutely loves sprinkler time and I was delighted to catch this little CHEESE!
I guess I can't blame him as many as I take while trying not to miss anything! Above is a "CHEESE" from when Stan and Landon made me a delicious chocolate cake for Stan and I's 7th Anniversary. I can't believe it has been that long!
I looked for a picture to put up, but would have had to scan it and Stan is taking a nap, so that wouldn't have been a welcomed request. After 7 years, we are still so much in love and so much even more so since we had Landon. He has been such a gift and seeing him grow and learn, being able to witness his curiosity and enthusiasm for life have opened Stan and I's eyes, for sure- to the simple pleasures we have to enjoy. I think our love has deepened as well because we have realized that we have to be a team that functions together to be able to best teach another human being. We have had many late night talks and prayers about the kind of parents God wants us to be. We are really excited to add another Cole boy to our family. It will be interesting to see what our next Anniversary reveals about our relationship. One thing is for sure, I got a good one. Thank you Lord.

Landon's Best Buddies

This is what I woke up to on Saturday morning. Stan and Landon cuddling on the couch- you can still kinda see the sleep in their eyes. :) Stan is such a good daddy and loves to run back and forth back and forth, play air guitar while dancing to Michael Jackson, play cars, run through the sprinkler, drive with the windows down, play tickle, and the list goes on- all to make our little buddy smile.

Landon playing in the sprinkler with Sophia. Landon absolutely loves Sophia and they play so well together. I have to say, if we still did arranged marriages, she would be it! :)

Landon and Porter playing in Porter's pool. Porter is our across the street neighbor. These two love Cars and Trains and have so much fun playing together. It is a joy to watch them laugh and chase each other. Porter is the reason Landon is sleeping in his big boy bed!

Landon's Big Cheese Smile for his mommy who is always snapping pictures...

Landon and Nanny playing at the pool. Landon loves his Nanny and enjoyed a day at Nanny's on Friday. He played so well splashing in the pool and even went under water a couple times (on purpose) while playing ring around the rosie. He had a great time making Nanny and Pappa laugh and got his share of giggles in for sure.

And...I like to think that mommy qualifies as a best buddy even though I take most of the pictures of he and his other buddies- but I am also housing a growing little brother for Landon who I pray will be one of his best buddies too!

AUCSCAOR 2009

We just got back from Stan's family reunion. If you are wondering what AUCSCAOR means...it is Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Second Cousins, And Other Relatives. It was started in 1977 I believe- or the idea was conceived that year. And the family has been getting together every 3-4 years since then. What an awesome legacy the 8 Mabe sisters, which Stan's grandmother was one of, left. What a faithful group of Christian women who really left a legacy of faith for their family. I feel completely honored to be a part of this family and to know that my children are in the blood line of such a wonderful family of prayer warriors.

Above is a Cole family picture plus Ryan, what a silly nut! Below are a few more fun shots for Landon's first AUCSCAOR, he made Stan and I so proud. He learned a little croquet, bonded with relatives and had a blast with all the kiddos! I also loved the picture of Anna and Brandon.

Landon and his cousin Carrie. He was showing her Buzz Light Year- it was a huge toy that all the two year olds had to "take turns" with! :)
