After School Beach Bash Take 2!

What do you get when you take 2 mamas and 6 children to the beach for the day????  A crazy fun time!!

This year Sarah and I decided to take our kids down to the beach for the day for the second year in a row.  It will be an after school tradition! This year, we had to wait 2 weeks because we headed to the beach immediately after that last school bell rang (actually, a day before it even did...shhhh....).  We had a blast!

JD and Landon helped Sarah and I wrestle the unruly umbrella...that ended up going in the trashcan...

Connorbug tackled the waves, as per his usual!

These two just had a blast playing, running, digging, laughing, smiling, eating.  Love.

Landon tackled the skim board.  With his speed and agility, he was a natural, as you can see.

And, of course, he caught more fish. :)

Did I mention that these two had fun?

I mean, really, they could NOT be any cuter, right?

We even attempted a group shot since Kay surprised us and met us there! Cray cray.

Kay played silly games with them all, as is her usual silly Nanny self.  :)

The boys had some time to reflect.

Best Buds...watching these two grow up together is so sweet.  A week apart, so similar yet so different.  So sweet together.

Love these two.  It is so so hard to believe they are so big!

Sweet neighbors, sweet friends.  How in the world did we get so blessed!!!!!

Me and my crazies.  Love these kids and these sweet days spent with them.

It was a success, for the second year in a row.  It may sound crazy to you, all 8 of us in a mini van, but I am a firm believer in fun.  And that is what it is for me and my sweet dear neighbors!

Hope you enjoyed!

Connor's First Dance Performance

Oh, yes.  My little Fred Astaire.  Connor has been taking ballroom dancing lessons for the past several months at our local Fred Astaire dance studio.  Stan and I have been talking lessons there for about 2 years.  If you want a look at some pictures of us dancing, see this link Fairy Tale.

Dancing has been so wonderful for Stan and I.  It is amazing what it can teach you about marriage. There is leading and following, working together, keeping a frame, embracing, learning and connecting. It really is a lot like marriage counseling...just a lot more fun.  ;)

So, the owners of Fred Astaire have a 5 year old little boy and they decided to start a class for kids. Aren't we lucky that we happen to have a 5 year old too!  The class was to meet every Saturday from 12-12:45.  That, we could make work, with our busy Spring Baseball schedule for Landon.  So, I started taking him and one week became another, we bought dancing shoes and I started catching this sweet little fellow dancing when no one was watching.

I happened to catch him this week.  His brother is out of town...the older brother who is very athletic and actually quite hard on his little sensitive brother.  Connor was dancing to his little heart's desire, grabbed my hands and started leading me in his own little step touch to a Michael Jackson song.  We danced, I smiled, my heart was full...then he looked at me with the sweetest eyes and said, "Mommy, I just love to dance, I just LOVE it!"

So, enjoy my post about my little dancer and his very first performance and his very first trophy. :)

The three dancers in our family.  :)  I just love love it!

Proud mama moment.

So, this is how it started out.  He had to walk the little girl onto the ballroom floor with his hand behind his back while she held her skirt.  He was so so serious.  You can see Lindsay Jane and I sitting across the ballroom and my mom standing taking a picture.

Time to dance.  I think this is the Cha Cha Cha.  He was caught telling his partner to "focus" and "hold your skirt".  He is so serious!

Next dance, still very serious...

I believe this was the Waltz.  He is actually a pretty good little lead (after I told him not to step on the little girls' feet to get them to move them).  He was pushing them the way he wanted them to go! That was a sweet little lesson in what it means to be the leader, especially when you are leading someone who may now know all that you do.   I also talked to him about how you treat a little girl.  It was so so sweet. :)

Another little partner...

Another dance...

And, sweet Oksana giving Connor his trophy.  You can also see Yuri in the back behind Oksana. They are the owners.  Not only are they phenomenal dancers, they are just good people.  It was so amazingly sweet when Yuri was talking about how much they were enjoying teaching the kids.  It was very evident how very much dancing means to both of them.  And, it is a passion that they want to share with others.  I love it when people share their gifts and these two are doing just that.  Seeing them with these kids was so special.  What a great pair, what a great place, what a great thing to do!

Lining up for a pose!

Oksana, Yuri and all of their little dancers.

Strike a pose!

Yay!  Look at those trophies raised high in the air!  So proud!

Oksana and Yuri also wanted to make sure that they got a picture with all of the parents and we had a champagne toast.  It was such a special time, special for us and very visibly, special for them.

Mommom, Pop, Daddy, Mommy, Landon, Lindsay Jane, Tori and Katie came to watch sweet Connor.  You can see a frown on his face...because he did not want any more pictures. Oh well.  He was a good sport for a while and he is only 5.  This one might be funny to show him one day when he is on Dancing with the Stars...haha!

Hope you enjoyed the pictures of my little dancer!

Done: Embracing My Ordinary

Well, we have reached quite a milestone in our house.  We are done with diapers.  Lindsay Jane, true to every stereotype I have ever heard on this matter, potty trained completely, nighttime and all, a whole year before the boys and at least 2 years on the nighttime part.  Isn’t she cute?

I decided to use this time as a teachable moment for the kids.  We ended up donating the diapers to the diaper bank.  There were a lot, one box not even opened.  We talked about how we always had diapers for our babies and that some people have to choose to eat dinner or buy diapers for their babies.  We talked about the money we could get if we sold the diapers.  We talked about how receiving something like diapers might make a mama cry.  That is what struck my Connor.  He looked at me with the sweetest eyes, “Why would she cry?” I explained to him that those tears might be tears of joy, relief, thankfulness and also pain.  It was a lot for a 5 year old to take in, but that’s what made me start thinking about this title of this post.  After all, it is hard for me to take in…and for a completely different reason.

We are “done” and that is hard.  Done having babies.  Done bringing those babies home from the hospital after carrying that precious new life inside me for 9 months.  Done from nursing those babies. Done watching those babies take their first steps. Done with diapers. Done.

That makes me feel, well, done.  I always imagined myself getting married and having babies. Beyond that, I didn’t really think much about what my life would look like.

I have found myself reeling for my identity.  I have been questioning everything this year.  My role as a mom, wife, friend, daughter, sister, nurse practitioner.  You name it, I have questioned it.  I don’t want to be done having babies.  What does that mean for me?  What in the world do I do next?  I am a good baby mom, but dealing with school aged issues?????  What???  Don’t get me started on how that whole scene has affected my identity.

Oh, how lonely I have felt.  How empty.  How scared.  How sad.  How confused.

“He must increase, I must decrease…. John 3:30”

Isn’t it awesome how God pulls you in. For me, it happened at the ocean.  I learned about my ordinary being extraordinary.  I learned about seeing beauty in simplicity.

We are all ordinary without God.  With him, our every ordinary becomes extraordinary.

It really is that simple.

My ordinary embraced: Mom, Wife, Friend, Daughter, Sister, PNP.

I wrote out each of the above rolls in my journal as I say in front of the ocean.  I wrote out my own affirmations.  I do not do that enough! If you haven't done that lately, do it!  I let God speak to me and wrote down what I felt he was telling me, telling my soul, as I spent time reflecting and listening.

I want to see myself as he sees me.  He does not see someone who is “done”.  He sees his daughter, the daughter he created for a purpose.  He sees every single one of my “ordinaries” as extraordinary.  He sees them as he intends for them to be embraced, he sees them to their fullness.  I don’t have that birds eye view, but I have the promises he has given me in his word that he does.  When I embrace my ordinary, it becomes extraordinary.  How awesome is that.

How can I embrace my ordinary life event of my youngest potty training?  I can use it as a springboard to teach my kids about those less fortunate than us.  I can listen to what I am telling them and I can be thankful that I never went a day without a diaper for my babies.  I can then pause and stop chasing the next thing, event, purchase, career move, etc.  I can pause and simply be, be fulfilled and used for God’s purposes right where I am.  Not where I was as a baby mama, but where I am as a mom of three little ones who need guidance, direction, comfort, love, discipline, a mama who advocates for them, a mama who learns with them about how to embrace every day, every minute, every breath, a mama who shows them the Lord.

My ordinary life is extraordinary because I am the daughter of a King. My future as a mom, wife, friend, daughter, sister and nurse practitioner are also extraordinary.

Lord, help me live in each moment, listening, looking and keeping an open heart to all you are doing.  I don’t want to miss it for my own chasing…I want to chase you. And, of course, these little rascals...
